Orignal Description:RP States: A broken force main caused a release to come up out of the street and it went into a storm drain. The release went to a storm pump station and to the San Francisco Bay. Signs posted "NO Swimming", along the east side of the bay.
Update(s): 10/24/2009 12:49:11 PM - 10/24/2009, 1250 hrs: RP advised: He spoke with Carla Godfrey, SF PUC, who advised that the actual location is on Treasure Island. The US Navy is listed on the spill report as the responsible party, but only because they hold the permit for the area where the force main broke - not because of any negligence on their part. The amount listed (67, 600 gallons) of raw sewage is accurate. The portion remaining in the storm drain has been contained and will be flushed appropriately. No action will be taken with respect to the Bay, with the exception of the "No Swimming" signs posted - the sewage into the bay will be allowed to dissipate naturally. Repairs are being made now but there is no estimated time for completion. There are no emergency management issues. If the situation changes, Ms. Godfrey will notify us.
